Monti Lucretili Regional Nature Park
The Regional Natural Park of the Lucretili Mounts is a protected area, established in 1989. The Regional Park, still partly uncontaminated, is located on the limestone ridge of the Lazio pre-Apennines and covers an area of 18,000 hectares, whose main nucleus is constituted by the Monti Lucretili. Its the Rieti province it embraces the municipalities of Orvinio, Palombara Sabina, Poggio Moiano and Scandriglia. It is one of the largest parks in Lazio. Surprisingly rich and “wild”, despite the modest altitudes and proximity to the metropolis, it includes the front of the Apennines facing the Tyrrhenian plain. The highest point is Monte Pellecchia (1,368 m.) which dominates the valley of the Licenza stream. The landscape include woods, wide karst plains, ponds and a series of small villages characterized by narrow houses built at the foot of imposing castles.
