Where is it?
Paganico Sabino rises 720 m. above sea level and covers a territory of just 9 square kilometres. It is a small, but very ancient village in the Turano valley, inhabited by 170 people and immersed in an extraordinary landscape, rich in history, culture and ancient traditions that the population preserved and handed down to the present days.
What to see?
The territory of Paganico offers the visitor a lot of attractions, the most important of which is an old monument dating back to the second half of the 1st century BC, known as the "Written Stone". It is a funerary monument of the Muttini family, located in the territory of the Municipality of Paganico Sabino, immediately downstream of the Turanense Provincial Road. Not to be missed is also a visit to the churches preserved in the municipal territory, including the parish church of San Nicola that occupies a central position within the inhabited nucleus and the oldest church of San Giovanni Battista incorporated into the municipal cemetery. The church of Santa Maria dell 'Annunciazione, which until 2000 was in a state of total abandonment, was renovated in 2001 and transformed for tourist-receptive purposes. The church is currently deconsecrated and is equipped to accommodate hikers. On the other hand, the current seat of the Town Hall originally housed the Church of San Giorgio. In the municipal area trekkers and hikers will certainly appreciate the Obito gorges, reachable from Paganico, walking through ancient chestnut groves of rare beauty and small "pieces" of history that the forest has preserved for many centuries. This historical/naturalistic trekking was traced following an ancient path that once linked Paganico to other towns in the area such as Ascrea, Collegiove and Marcetelli. Passing by the Old Mola, the "Fonte della Signora" spring and finally crossing the Roman Bridge inside the Bosco dell'Obito, the splendid Gorges appear, nestled between high cliffs known as "the Eagle's nest", where the splendid raptor is frequently sighted.
